To master Gravity, it helps to understand its foundational building blocks. Here you'll learn the basic platform vocabulary so the rest of the docs can be easier to follow.
Most work you will do on the platform is built from these core pieces:
Apps - External platforms, tools, and services you integrate with.
Connections - The link between Gravity and your Apps.
Workflows - Automated sequences that your Apps together and executing your business logic.
Triggers - The specific events or schedules that initiate a Workflow.
Actions - The specific tasks executed by the Workflow once it has been triggered.
Runs - Individual executions of an active Workflow.
Logs - Detailed, step-by-step records of each Run used for auditing and debugging.
Let's imagine a company that sells coffee equipment online - CoffeeZone for this example.
Anytime a customer buys a new coffee press, CoffeeZone wants to:
Update available inventory of coffee presses.
Create a shipping label.
Share the label the appropriate warehouse.
Using Gravity this process can be automated with a Workflow.
Trigger: Customer places order at CoffeeZone.com
- Action #1: Update the inventory in the Warehouse Management App.
- Action #2: Create a shipping label in a Carrier or Logistics App.
- Action #3: Upload shipping label into the Warehouse Management App.Each time this occurs it's referred to as a workflow Run.
The detailed diary of every Action performed in a workflow Run is posted to the Logs screen for easy debugging.
